Game Elements

For this weeks reading we had two main articles to read and a little video to watch.

my initial thought when reading those articles was I didn't realise there was sooo much information on gaming studies before. It's something I never really thought about before, we think of games and we know they're there and people play them but the amount of background work that goes into them was eye opening.

The second article I read called Game Design Research was an in depth explanation of what game design research is and the process of it. The article goes through how important learning gaming studies is and how it should be held to the same academic standards to other studies. I agree with this because game design is one of the biggest industries at the moment and if we learn about it while in secondary school especially then that would give more chances for people to  explore their creativity and consider careers in this industry. another part of the article I liked was when they discussed what is game design ?, and they further described it as being "emotional engineering, largely communication", and I found that as an interesting take on game design.

The first article I read was What are the qualities of game?. This article went through the different qualities that games have, their themes and what all games have in common.

we learn that games are like interactive stories, they have beginnings middles and ends with conflicts involved.

The article further talks about critical analysis and how we can use this to improve our games. receiving criticism can help us make our projects even better rather than people giving us reviews without any substance to work on.
