Games MDA

This week's reading was a little bit tedious and I wasn't very interested in it. It was about the MDA framework. MDA stands for Mechanics, Dynamics, and Aesthetics.  The article went through how MDA is an approach for us to understand the differences between game design, game development, game criticism, and technical gaming research.

Mechanics are the algorithms and the level of data representation.

Dynamics are the outcome of the mechanics input

Aesthetic is the emotional response from a player when they  interact with the game.

Players initially notice the aesthetic of the game these range from:

  • sensations
  • fantasy
  • narrative
  • challenges
  • fellowship
  • discovery
  • expression
  • submission.
We learn that developers tend to lean towards the mechanics and dynamics aspect of gaming while developing.

Overall this article was informative and you learn a lot about the gaming world.

Encourage you to read it in more depth here is the link to it.- Article
