We were given the task of reading some very thought provoking articles about time management.

I chose to read " The Important Habit Of Just Starting" by Jory Mackay.

In this article they talk about procrastination and its effects on us and how we can over come this.

something very interesting caught my eye  while reading this article, it was “Dr Piers Steels formula to determine why we decide our choices.

Motivation = Expectancy X Value

                        Impulsiveness X Delay

"Breaking this down, motivation is the drive or preference for a course of action, or what economists call utility. At the top of the equation, expectancy is the odds of an outcome coming from your choice, while value refers to how rewarding that outcome might be.

Underneath, impulsiveness is your sensitivity to delays (how easily you get distracted) and delay is how long you have to wait to receive the reward."

The article further talks about how procrastinators tend to value immediate rewards more so than future rewards which is another obstacle that causes the spiral of continuous procrastination.

In saying this we live in a society that sucks us into the toxic cycle of procrastination. The world around us caters towards people’s impulsiveness which over time becomes a habit of prioritising immediate rewards rather than thinking about future ones.

"Ironically, the guilt and frustration we feel from not starting is often worse than the pain of actually doing work.

"In the words of writer and theorist Eliezer Yudkowsky:

“On a moment to moment basis, being in the middle of doing the work is usually less painful than being in the middle of procrastinating."

This segment from the article is my favourite because it is the most relatable.

We have all at some point in our lives procrastinated and left things to the last minute and then told ourselves we wont do that again … and we do the exact same thing the next time.

We are causing our own downfalls repeatedly.

This article inspired me to work harder and get out of a lazy slump, it wont happen over night bad habits need to be unlearnt one step at a time.

The second article I read was “ 11 ways unsuccessful people mismanage their time” By Aine Cain.

This article gives us the run down on things people do that can lead them to becoming unsuccessful.

I found this a fun read and very thought provoking as we can see what we can change in our own lives for the better.

Here are the links to the articles, Highly recommend giving them a read.
