Game Fun

This week's readings discussed the meaning of fun and what makes a game fun to play. I found it really interesting because we often don't think about these types of things in depth. The video I watched talked about the different types of games and how they affect our brains. As humans, we like our patterns, and our brains can use them while playing games. the video later states that fun is the dopamine in our brain when It is challenged with something new to dissect and learn from, for example, chess teaches us strategies, civilisation games teach us resource management and poker teaches us deception. these fit into the category of type 1 games which are more about thinking. Type 2 games are mainly focused on reflexes eg: shooting games, Mario, fighting games, and many more.

the video also states that "games are fundamentally an art that gives us the ability to learn". I really like that statement because sometimes we view games as pointless and wastes too much of our time when in reality they play a much more significant part in our learning.

here are some additional links to other resources that I found interesting to read on this topic.
